Thus, allowed us to conform to the biblical requirements to ‘abstain from blood' (Acts 15:29; 21:25)
Blood Conservation Strategies:
Cell Saver: A blood salvage method that collects blood from the incision site and returns it to the patient, maintaining continuous connection as an extension of the circulatory system.
Erythropoietin (EPO): A hormone, now genetically engineered, that stimulates the bone marrow to produce red blood cells.
Argon Beam Coagulator: An electrocautery device that controls small-artery bleeding and is often used in surgeries on organs that bleed easily.
Microwave Coagulating and Harmonic Scalpels: Use microwave and high-speed vibration, respectively, to cause coagulation.
Nonblood Fluids: Ringer's lactate, dextran, hetastarch, and saline are used to maintain blood volume, which prevent shook and facilitate red-cell circulation.
In recent years, medical science has developed safe, effective, nonblood alternatives in virtually every subspecialty of medicine. An improved standard of care for all patients has thus been made possible. This documentary presents case histories along with fascinating interviews to help viewers understand what nonblood alternatives are and how they work.
